A story that has made many headlines in recent weeks is now getting a happy ending.

David Ray, a fifteen-year old boy who had been taken from his mother and step father after authorities learned he smoked marijuana to treat his seizures, is now going home.

He texted his mother, ““I’m coming home, with an exclamation point.”

Suzeanna and Matthew Brill had been charged with reckless conduct and went to jail. According to David’s mother, the boy had been seizure-free for 71 days while using marijuana, but then had “one of the worst seizures of his life” that led him to the hospital.

It was on Monday that the Division of Family and Children Services outlined a protective order that returns full custody of David to his mother.

The duo will have to meet with a DFCS case agent twice monthly for at least the next six months. David will also have to undergo drug tests.

David will not be allowed to use marijuana but will receive a prescription for Epidiolex, the first cannabis-oil derived drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of seizures.
