Marijuana is about to go on sale in California next year, but there are going to be some rules and regulations first.
On January 1st, the state will be able to start issuing licenses when marijuana becomes recreationally legal.
The state just released the rule book this week that contains a whopping 276 pages of regulations that must abide by, by January 1st. There were three sets of rules released by three agencies that included rules for testing and tracking the marijuana products from seed to sale. It also inclues pages on license types, and fees.
Some of the rules include that marijuana businesses in the state cannot be within 600 feet of schools and that shops need to close by 10 p.m. and have 24-hour video surveillance.
Lori Ajax, the chief California’s Bureau of Cannabis Control said, “I feel a big sigh of relief. It’s a big milestone for us to release these regulations. But there’s still a lot of work to be done. No rest for the weary.”
Some other rules include that shops will only be allowed to give free cannabis products to medical patients or their caregivers and that businesses will be able to apply for a special license to host cannabis events, such as festivals at fairgrounds.
