Don’t count on drones or self-driving vehicles to deliver your recreational marijuana in California.

The state’s Bureau of Cannabis Control has issued regulations this month that only allow pot to be delivered in “in person by enclosed motor vehicle.”

The exact rule is that any marijuana delivery in the state of California must be made to physical addresses and are banned from public lands or “buildings leased by public agencies.”

“Transportation may not be done by aircraft, watercraft, rail, drones, human powered vehicles, or unmanned vehicles.”

The rules also state, “Cannabis goods may not be left in an unattended motor vehicle unless the vehicle has an active alarm system. Vehicles used for delivery must have a dedicated, active GPS device that enables the dispensary to identify the geographic location of the vehicle during delivery.”

The rules also state, “Cannabis goods will be required to be transported inside commercial vehicles or trailers.”

The Bureau also has stated that those who deliver the cannabis are not allowed to consume the substance while out on the delivery.
