Canada’s Senate voted to legalize recreational marijuana on Thursday with the upper chamber Senate voting 56-30 in favor of the legislation.

However, amendments have been added that the House of Commons will need to decide on before the law can be passed.

Canada is to become the first G7 nation that will allow the national use of marijuana.

There is no date yet specified on when the drug would be available for sale in the country but according to Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor, marijuana would only go on sale a few months after it was legalized.

Ontario, Canada’s most populous province has plans for 40 government-run stores at first, which could hit 150 by 2020. The second largest province, Quebec, will start with 20 stores.
