Vancouver Island-based Broken Coast Cannabis Ltd., is recalling products it sold last year due to a spot test of its supply by Health Canada showing two pesticides present in a sample of cannabis oil.

The commercial grower is recalling three batches of dried cannabis sold during the second half of 2016.

No patients have reported getting sick from Broken Coast products and the recall notice has stated that the contaminants are unlikely to cause any adverse health consequences.

Broken Coast Cannabis Ltd. was one of the very first commercial growers that obtained a license by Health Canada in 2014.

“From a patient’s perspective, it’s concerning if there’s any unauthorized substances found in cannabis. Patients are using this as a medicine so it needs to be safe and reliable,” said Jonathan Zaid, head of the patient advocacy group Canadians for Fair Access to Medical Marijuana.

“At the same time, it is good to see that the recalls can happen because it shows accountability within the system.
