American Green Inc. just made headlines for purchasing an entire town in the state of California. The maker of cannabis products purchased a town called Nipton in the golden state for around $5 million.

The purchase gave the company 120 acres of land, as well as a general store, a hotel, a school building, and some mineral baths. What American Green has planned could become the Disney Land of marijuana in this small town.

The company plans to invest as much as $2.5 million over the next year and a half to create a pot-friendly tourist destination.

According to Stephen Shearin, the project manager, the company wants to revitalize the town that has about 20 people for its population. Nipton is located in the San Bernardino County and is right across the border from Nevada. It’s a three hour or so drive from Los Angeles and an hour away from Las Vegas.

“We thought that showing that there was a viable means of having a cannabis-friendly municipality and further making it energy independent could be a way of really inspiring folks to say, ‘Why can’t we do that here?’” said Shearin.

The company is planning for a new facility to manufacture water infused with CBD as well as a production site for edible marijuana products. The company also plans for retail stores and artist-in-residence programs.

“The Gold Rush built this city,” Shearin said. “The Green Rush can keep it moving the way people envisioned it years ago.”
