Canada’s legalization bill has proposed that Canadian adults be allowed to grow up to four cannabis plants per household. Conservative group, The Tories, has attacked this homegrow provision in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s pending bill.

They argue that this kind of a policy could give children very easy access to marijuana. Tory justice critic Rob Nicholson, who is also a former attorney general, asked the House, “Is there any easier way to get marijuana than if your parents and everybody have got plants in the kitchen?”

“I can’t understand how the Liberals can be making this point that somehow, ‘Yes, we’re protecting our children here, and guess what? You’re only going to get four plants.” He asked asked Parliament to drop the provision.

Another Tory critic, MP Marilyn Gladu said, “Kids eat plants all the time because their parents do not put them up in the cupboard.”

She also indicated that the provision could turn children into “drug mules” at school as they could eat the plants by accident.

Maybe someone should tell them that eating raw marijuana does not create a “high” that is associated with the chemical THC. It’s only mature portions of cannabis when heated to the point of decarboxylation can create the psychoactive effect.
