California is just about a couple of weeks away from January 1st when recreational marijuana will be legal across the state.

The first company to obtain a recreational marijuana license is a San Diego-based medical marijuana business called Torrey Holistics.

The company has received two of the first 20 licenses granted by the state Bureau of Cannabis Control this week to sell or distribute marijuana.

The licenses will not take effect until January 1st.

Bureau chief Lori Ajax remarked, “Last week, we officially launched our online licensing system, and today we’re pleased to issue the first group of temporary licenses to cannabis businesses that fall under the Bureau’s jurisdiction.”

“We plan to issue many more before January 1,” he said.
