Greece took a big step this week in the marijuana arena. The country’s parliament has decided that cannabis is now effectively legal for medicinal purposes. The decision was reached by Ministers of Health and Justice and was published in last Friday’s edition of the Government Gazette.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras stated, “From now on, the country is turning its page, as Greece is now included in countries where the delivery of medical cannabis to patients in need is legal.”

Marijuana used to be classified as a Table A drug with narcotics like heroin and LSD. Table B has drugs like methadone, cocaine, and opium.

There has been no news on licensing yet but the state does now have the right to give licenses for cultivation of medicinal cannabis.
According to Prime Minister Tsipras, the importation of cannabis-based medicines

will also be permitted.
