It was on January 1st that the state of California saw the official legalization of recreational marijuana.

One company, called MedMen, is gearing up to get the message across to people in Los Angeles that marijuana is now legal.

The company has spent over $500,000 already on marketing and is running ads on billboards across the metropolitan area. There are no images of marijuana on the ads, but instead has phrases that say “Heal. It’s legal,” as well as “Relax. It’s legal.”

Daniel Yi, the firm’s vice president of corporate communications said to CNBC, “This is not about marijuana.”

“This is about the people who use cannabis for all the reasons people have used cannabis for hundreds of years. Yes for recreation, just like alcohol, but also for wellness.”

MedMen has six stores in Southern California and three in New York
