The state of Maine has decided to delay cannabis social clubs in the state until the year 2023.

A legalization panel, called the Marijuana Legalization Implementation Committee, voted 5-1 to delay the social club licensing according to the Portland Press Herald.

According to committee members, they want to wait so that the state can learn from other states looking to implement cannabis social clubs and gather more information.

The president of marijuana advocacy group Legalize Maine, Paul McCarrier, remarked that the delay is “one part of a many-part process to get to ‘yes.'”
