According to a physician at the Holyoke Forum panel discussion this week, marijuana poses nowhere neat the dependency problem that nicotine or alcohol does.

Dr. Peter Grinspoon of Massachusetts General Hospital spoke to an audience at the Gateway City Arts on Race Street on Tuesday and said, “I just think it’s complete propaganda that it’s a gateway. It’s associated to other drug use, but that doesn’t mean it’s causally related to other drug use….I think cannabis, if anything, is a gateway out.”

The doctor was among other panelists during a forum called, “Cannabis and Opioids: Prevention or Treatment.”

“I have always held the mantra: It’s your recovery, it’s your decision,” chimed in another panelist named Jennifer Flanagan of the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission.
