While Melissa Etheridge’s medical marijuana oil is legal in California, it is not legal in the state of North Dakota where the Grammy award winning singer was busted for having it.

According to TMZ, the singer was returning to the U.S. from Canada in North Dakota where police drug sniffing dogs found the substance. Etheridge and her tour bus had stopped by Customers and Border Patrol.

Etheridge had told the police that she uses the drug to manage pain from cancer.
TMZ obtained her mugshot where she is smiling big. The singer has been a long time advocate of medical marijuana.

Etheridge has been very open about her use of marijuana in the past. She said in an interview once, “I’ve been a celebrity here for almost 30 years, and I’ve done my best to speak truthfully about who I am and my human experience as I go through life, from my work to my family. Sometimes I find that I can say something, thinking that the whole world will understand, and they kind of go in another direction. I think if I get a little more specific, it can help guide the conversation in general about cannabis.”
