July 1st marked the day that marijuana became recreation-ally legal in the state of Nevada. There was much anticipation for this day, as fire works erupted in the sky early Saturday morning.

Nevada is now the eighth state in the United States that has made pot legal so that anyone 21 and older can possess up to an ounce of marijuana.

Green fireworks in Las Vegas celebrated the beginning of legal recreational sales and the state’s own Senator Tick Segerblom was the one of the first people to make a purchase.

According to many in Nevada, Segerblom is considered to be the “godfather of the marijuana movement.”

“Every time you buy something here, 33-cents is going to taxes. This is the most heavily taxed and regulated industry in the whole state,” Segerblom said to CNN affiliate KSNV.

In the next 24 months, marijuana is expected to generate $60 million in tax revenue for the state.
