Nevada’s governor Brian Sandoval is one person not reacting in an excited manner about the state having cannabis lounges and cafes.

A new opinion by lawyers for the state legislature recently has addressed the fact that nothing in state law prohibits local governments from allowing marijuana consumption in businesses such as cannabis lounges and cafes.

Sandoval spoke to the Las Vegas Review-Journal earlier in the week and remarked,

“I did not support them previously. I don’t support them now.”

According to an email he sent to the Reno Gazette-Journal, Sandoval is concerned that these kind of establishments could be “piecemeal throughout the state” and have differently regulatory structures and rules.

Although adults 21 and over are able to buy marijuana recreationally in Nevada, the state prohibits public consumption of it.

“Marijuana is legal in the privacy of your own home, your own domain,” explained Officer Jay Rivera, a spokesman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department this past summer. “You cannot smoke it publicly.

“As far as I know, there’s no hotel property that allows it either on the Strip or Fremont Street,” he also said. “They do not want it on their property.”
