A bill has been proposed in New York that would allow medical marijuana to be legal for pets.

Introduced by New York State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, the Democrat is looking for a way to give pet owners another option on how to give their ill pets relief.

According to Dr. Susan Wylegala at Cheektowaga Veterinary Hospital, “We are either using other medications that may not be effective and maybe more costly for the client and we may have to give them higher dosage and more frequently.”

“We don’t have a lot of information on what conditions to use it for, what dosages are effective, what dosages are safe,” Wylegala remarked however on marijuana as an option.

Paulin has yet to have a state senate co-sponsor for her bill but if it passes, New York would be the first state to legalize the drug for pets.
