Marijuana for medicinal purposes can now start to grow in the state of Ohio.

According to an Ohio Department of Commerce spokeswoman, the first certificate allowing the operation of medicinal marijuana cultivation went to a cultivator in Ravenna in Portage County.

The cultivator is FN Group Holdings and it was awarded the certificate of operation Friday after having its facility inspected on Tuesday.

FN Group is one of 12 so-called “Level 2” growers that had received provisional licenses from the state to grow medical marijuana in up to 3,000 square feet of space.

The company is the only cultivator so far to have a certificate to operate.
