In a story that sounds like it could be made up, an Indiana Fire Department was woken up in the middle of the night by a pet owner who said her pet smoked too much weed.

The pet in question was a raccoon.

Indiana’s Wayne Township Fire Department wrote about the event on their Twitter this week, recounting the night that the woman brought her pet raccoon into the station.

The firefighters had been woken up in the middle of the night to her ringing the station’s doorbell. According to Mike Pruitt, who is the station’s captain, “As many times as the doorbell on the firehouse was pushed, the fire fighters were quite certain that something bad was going on outside.”

According to the fire department, the woman said her pet raccoon had “smoked too

“They could tell that the raccoon was lethargic and met all of those symptoms that we typically run into when someone’s been exposed to marijuana,” Pruitt told WTHR.

“It really left the guys scratching their heads that someone brought a raccoon to the firehouse at 2 a.m. seeking help, and especially with the condition the animal was in, so we hope that the raccoon made a full recovery.”
