The sale of recreational marijuana will be legal in San Francisco starting January of 2018 and the city is getting ready for the big demand they anticipate to roll in.

Looks like the city of San Francisco will soon have an Office of Cannabis with a $700,000 fund. The city’s Board of Supervisors had unanimously voted to create an Office of Cannabis that will oversee the process that approves permits for the sale of recreational marijuana to adults.

“So the idea is — how are we going to manage that growth? What’s the right number?

What’s the right amount for San Francisco. The idea that someone else is going to come in in other places and there’s going to be this explosion of recreation, that’s not gonna happen,” said Supervisor Ahsha Safai.

The office will have three staff members that will handle public outreach and it will be up to them to manage the permit process.

The city has 46 medical marijuana dispensaries currently but more could start up by the time sales go legal.
