Despite law enforcement and health officials making their objections, the state of Tennessee’s House committee approved a bill on Wednesday that would allow some people in the state to get medical cannabis legally.

Rep. Jeremy Faison sponsored the measure that grants access to medical marijuana to those who are suffering from about a dozen conditions, a legal defense if they are for some reason arrested and prosecuted for having the drug. This of course is if the person has a doctor’s note that has prescribed the marijuana.

The House Criminal Justice Committee voted to advance the legislation with an overwhelming 9-2 vote.

“We have Tennesseans who are illegally alive today and they’re doing well but they’re breaking the law,” Faison said, when he seeked for approval of the bill.
