According to Jeff Sessions, the US Attorney General, marijuana is a drug that is fueling the opioid epidemic, despite research stating otherwise.

This week at a Heritage Foundation even that celebrated Ronald Reagan’s birthday, Session said that easy access to cannabis is helping to fuel the opioid epidemic.

According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, a majority of heroin addiction begins with a prescription to opioid pain killers.

Sessions remarked, “We think a lot of this is starting with marijuana and other drugs, too.”

It’s interesting that Sessions feels this way, because a study in 2016 actually found that there was a 64% reduction in opioid use among patients with chronic pain and this was connected to marijuana use.
