This week the country of Uruguay began to register people who want to legally buy marijuana at pharmacies in the country. The move is a part of the world’s first government-regulated national marketplace for pot.  Only citizens and legal residents of the country whom are over the age of 18 can register.

Marijuana in the country has been legal in both cultivation and sales since 2013.
The law allows licensed individuals to grow pot, for growers and users to form clubs, and for pharmacies to sell it. Registered users will be allowed to buy up to 40 grams a month. A gram will cost about $1.30. The companies that have won the government bid to supply pot will be able to charge around $0.90. The profit of $0.40 will be split between the government and pharmacies.

There has been no word yet from the government on when pharmacies would begin to sell pot.
