The Canadian province of Winnipeg has said it will have a hands off approach to marijuana retailers.
The province has decided not to create any new rules to govern where marijuana will be sold.
The City of Winnipeg’s chief planner Braden Smith, in a report to council’s property committee, said no new land-use rules are needed to govern where cannabis retailers can and cannot operate within the city.
Smith said marijuana retail stores should be treated the same way as liquor retail stores.
He also said that cannabis retail stores must also have “opaque windows, controlled access, and basic signage” and must also “reflect a high-end shopping environment that has a bright, open concept.”
