A young student in Florida inadvertently helped police arrest his parents. The 11-year old student’s backpack smelled like cannabis with prompted his Palm Springs Middle School teacher to notify the authorities according to the Miami Herald.

The teacher notified a Miami-Dade Schools police officer which then led police to the boy’s house where they found a small grow house operated by his parents, 41-year old Rolando Naranjo and 33-year old Betsy Espinoza.

According to the police report, the boy told officers there are marijuana plants in his house and his dad uses his backpack to transport the drug. He also said people go to his house to buy marijuana.

According to Hialeah Sgt. Carl Zogby, the conditions at the home are “deplorable.”
