A longtime fire fighter from Orange County, California was pulled over this month with 110 pounds of marijuana in his car according to investigators.

According to an arrest report, Erik Quarterman was wearing his department uniform when he was pulled over for failure to signal in Wise County, Texas. The investigators said they had found enough marijuana for a major drug operation.

A spokesperson for Orange County Fire rescue said Quarterman has been relieved of duty without pay and that the department will schedule a hearing as part of its formal investigation process.

They are withholding comment until that process and criminal proceedings are over. Quarterman has worked for the department since February 2007.

Quarterman was relieved of duty effective Monday and is now required to call his shift supervisor each day of his regularly scheduled shift before 10 a.m. to check in.

He’s also not allowed to discuss his arrest with his colleagues and he can’t visit any Orange County Fire Rescue station, facility or worksite unless his supervisor tells him to do so.

A predetermination hearing and a formal investigation will take place.
