A new Russian bill drafted by the Russian Health Ministry would authorize the importation of cannabis for the purpose of medical research.

The drug would be studied for its “addiction-causing capacities.”

New amendments to the legislation propose importing 1.1kg of marijuana, 300g of hashish, and 50g of hash oil. The legislation would also boost the quota of imported tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) from 10g to 50g per annum. THC is the chemical responsible for marijuana’s “high” effect.

“The import of narcotic drugs and cannabinoid psychotropic substances… will be required to conduct scientific research and testing in Russia,” reads a regulation drafted by the Health Ministry.

The public discussions of the proposed legislation are scheduled to end on Feb. 8th
