Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy has chosen a marijuana advocate for the board that regulates Alaska’s legal cannabis industry.

Dunleavy has chosen Bruce Schulte to the Marijuana Control Board. Previously he had picked a marijuana skeptic, Vivian Stiver, that had been rejected by the state’s lawmakers.

Schulte is a former board chairman who was booted in 2016 by then-Gov. Bill Walker.

Cary Carrigan with the Alaska Marijuana Industry Association has welcomed Schulte’s appointment.

It was last month that Juneau city officials approved a law that will allow onsite marijuana use at cannabis businesses in the city.

The Juneau Empire reported that the City and Borough of Juneau Assembly approved an ordinance that will allow customers to consume edibles and to smoke marijuana onsite at state-approved companies.

Businesses can allow edibles to be consumed indoors and those approved by the state can offer an outdoor smoking option.
