The province of Alberta in western Canada has picked an Ohio company to develop its online platform for recreational cannabis sales.

Headquarter in the city of Cincinnati, OnX Enterprise Solutions has been chosen to build and manage the platform for the next three years.

Alberta will be paying the company 15.8 million in Canadian dollars, which translates to $12.3 million for the contract that initially runs for three years. There are options to extend this to up to 10 years however.

So far the province has received around 87 applications to operate retail cannabis stores. There is no deadline to apply so this number may grow even larger.
