According to a Los Angeles Times report, there were nearly 3,000 illegal marijuana businesses found in a California audit.

The audit was conducted by the United Cannabis Business Assn. and it found approximately 2,835 unlicensed dispensaries and delivery services operating in California.

According to the Bureau of Cannabis Control, there are 873 cannabis sellers in California which are licensed.

Earlier this year, a financial audit had predicted that about $8.7 billion will be spent on unregulated marijuana products in the state for 2019.

Lawrence Mansour, chief technology officer for APOP Media, said he calculated the estimate of illegal operators by compiling a database of every California-based listing for a cannabis dispensary or delivery service that is on Weedmaps. He found 3,757 listings.
