Every one of Arkansas’ five state-approved medical cannabis grower sites are under construction which means soon enough, dispensaries will have product to sell.

The state this week has issued its first six licenses for businesses to sell medical marijuana. Sales are expected to happen at the earliest in April.

The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) said six of the 32 dispensaries the state’s Medical Marijuana Commission had announced it would license have already paid the $15,000 licensing fee and posted the $100,000 performance bond.

According to a spokesman for the DFA, the department expects the remaining companies will continue to pay and post the bond over the next week.

The dispensaries will have to pass a final inspection before they open.

The state is expected to distribute ID cards to patients next month.
