For at least 28 days before they go on duty, Canadian airlines and flight crews are forbidden to consume cannabis.

This announcement came from the country’s transportation regulator on Thursday.

Transport Canada’s new policy, which is effective immediately, proclaims that no person should work while “under the influence of any drug.” The statement was added to Transport Canada’s website.

“Our policy reflects our reputation as an industry leader in safety and our expectations that WestJetters report fit for duty and remain fit for duty at work,” a spokesperson for Westjet responded.
