A proposal will be looked at by a Cincinnati City Council committee this week that would allow medical marijuana cultivation and processing in manufacturing districts in the Ohio city.

The city has stepped away from several other Ohio communities that have voted to ban the sale and cultivation of the drug. Cities including Blue Ash, Evandale and Fairfield have banned the medical marijuana industry.

One business that could benefit from this would be Nature’s Apex, owned by Rhinegeist co-founders Bob Bonder and Bryant Goulding. The business wants to apply for a license that would allow it to cultivate and process medical marijuana in Cincinnati.

Another city that supports the cultivation and processing of medical marijuana is Wilmington. Mayor John Stanforth has also supported CannAscend’s plan.

CannAscend Ohio, LLC announced plans earlier this year build a medical cannabis facility on land currently owned by the Wilmington Community Improvement Corporation.

“Any time you can bring new jobs, pay taxes and it’s legal, I’m happy,” Stanforth said.

According to Cincinnati financier Jimmy Gould, CannAscend anticipates employing between 250 and 300 people in the Wilmington area if its license application is approved.
