Tuesday marked the first day that legal marijuana could be purchased in the state of Massachusetts. The state saw over $440,000 in sales on its first day with only two outlets open located in Leicester and Northampton.
The state’s Cannabis Control Commission said that over 10,000 individual marijuana-related items were sold on Tuesday. The total value of these products is over $440,000, resulting in over $88,000 in tax revenue for the state. Massachusetts taxes marijuana at 20%.
Additional outlets to sell marijuana are expected to open in the state in the coming weeks and months.
