Charlotte rapper DaBaby has been detained and charged with marijuana possession this holiday season.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, when DaBaby arrived for his concert officers smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle and observed marijuana in plain view inside. They officers then waited until after the concert to speak with him.
DaBaby was performing at the Bojangles’ Coliseum Monday night. The police said that DaBaby refused to speak and walked away, which is why he was detained while they searched his vehicle. Officers had found less than one-half ounce of marijuana inside.
DaBaby was arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and resisting but later officers decided they would issue him two citations instead.
CMPD has launched an Internal Affairs investigation to determine if officers followed department polices during the incident.
DaBaby said that he was wrongfully targeted after cops received a “bogus” tip he had drugs and guns in the vehicle. The rapper said, “Every time. There’s nobody when I pull up in the parking lot, the second I get out the car, 15 cops come around — can I borrow your microphone? ****** grabs mic … shining it into the car windows … they follow me, they pull us over for no reason.”
