In a not so ordinary story out of Nebraska, a couple in their 80’s were arrested this week for allegedly transporting 60 pounds of marijuana worth several hundred thousands worth of dollars.

According to the couple, who told the police, the marijuana was intended to be Christmas presents to be given away.

Patrick Jiron, 83, and his wife, Barbara Jiron, 80, were pulled over by deputies from York County Sheriff’s Department as they drove in their Toyota Tacoma. The couple has failed to signal a turn and were stopped on Interstate 80 near a town called Bradshaw.

After a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle, the deputies found around 60 pounds of the drug in the car with a street value of over $300,000.

According to the department, they also found “multiple” containers of concentrated THC.

The couple said they were driving from California to Vermont and were planning to stop in Boston and wanted to give the drug to family and friends as their Christmas gifts.
