While many may consider smoking marijuana harmless, it shook up Wall Street on Friday when traders learned that Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk had been smoking pot and drinking whiskey on a podcast.
The electric vehicle maker’s leader was seen on a podcast interview with U.S. comedian Joe Rogan, smoking the marijuana.
Musk, 47, spent two-and-half hours on the streamed podcast late on Thursday talking about all kinds of things, including artificial intelligence and social media.
According to Rogan, the marijuana was a blend of tobacco and marijuana and is legal in the state of California.
Musk admitted that he “almost never” smoked. “I’m not a regular smoker of weed,” Musk said. “I don’t actually notice any effect … I don’t find that it is very good for productivity.”
Abruptly a day after, Tesla’s head of accounting, Dave Morton, resigned from his position, after only a month at the company.
Morton said, “The level of public attention placed on the company, as well as the pace within the company, have exceeded my expectations. This caused me to reconsider my future. I want to be clear that I believe strongly in Tesla, its mission and its future prospects, and I have no disagreements with Tesla’s leadership or its financial reporting.”
Tesla shares also slide nearly 10% on Friday.
