According to a report in the Tampa Bay Times, deputies have said that a Spring Hill teenager shot another teenager over a phony marijuana deal.

The teenager from Hernando County, is facing charges for shooting the other teenager after trying to sell him tobacco as marijuana on New Year’s Eve.

The deputies said that deputies arrived at around 10:40PM on New Year’s Eve at the 11000 block of Pickford Street where they found a man holding a teenager to the ground. The man, who also held a gun, told deputies the teen had just shot another boy, deputies said.

They found the victim nearby, where bystanders were treating him for injuries to his shoulder and back. The injuries were not life threatening and he was taken to a local medical center for treatment.

According to the deputies, the shooter went to the victim’s house under the guise of selling marijuana but intended to pass off tobacco as the drug. The victim wouldn’t make the buy, and the shooter pulled out a handgun and demanded money.

The shooter, who remains unnamed due to his age, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a felon, deputies said. He was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Ocala.
