In the next coming months, Israel is preparing to legalie recreational marijuana and has been aiming to expand its manufacturing, production, and exporting capabilities.

Attorney Hagit Weinstock of Tel Aviv-based Weinstock-Zehavi & Co. has told The Media Line, “I can see by the committees that I’m part of that everyone is pushing that [legalization] will be done. We already have a draft [law].”

Weinstock and his firm are working with dozens of Israeli as well as international companies and investors within the marijuana industry.

The draft law would allow Israelis over the age of 21 to use cannabis and buy it at designated stores. Smoking in public areas will be forbidden.

Weinstock further said about the government and their stand on legalization, “Both sides agree on this issue. They’ve all signed a declaration that this will be an issue that they are going to support so we don’t have dangers with this government or others.”

Earlier this month Israel Health Minister Yuli Edelstein signed a regulatory amendment permitting the use of CBD in cosmetics and foods. CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of the key ingredients in marijuana.

A United Nations commission also recently voted to remove medicinal marijuana from the list of the world’s most dangerous drugs.

Weinstock is optimistic that all of these developments are the start of a big shift in the attitude towards marijuana. She remarked, “All the regulations are going to change from March in the whole world.”
