Marine adventurer Jacques Cousteau may have been hooked on the sea, but his grandson has a passion for cannabis and has turned it into a brand.

A new company blending the rejuvenating properties of seaweed, kelp and algae with the healing benefits of cannabis launched this week with the rollout of a line of topicals and edibles in California, the nation’s largest legal marijuana market.

The company was co-founded by legendary marine adventurer Jacques Cousteau’s grandson Philippe and his wife Ashlan.

SeaWeed Naturals promises to help restore the globe’s oceans while providing premium cannabis wellness products to its customers.

“The healing properties of cannabis and the superpowers of seaweed and algae-based Omega 3s are a mighty combination,” Ashlan Cousteau writes in an email to Forbes.

“When applied topically, seaweed and kelp have been proven to hydrate, minimize fine lines, promote collagen production, boost radiance, help relieve inflammation in skin, and reduce aging from environmental aggressors like pollution. When ingested, seaweed is a superfood and Omega 3 amino acids derived from algae have been proven to improve the health of your skin, organs, joints and bones, and crucially—your brain,” she said.

Ashlan told Forbes she was first introduced to the healing properties of cannabis after giving birth to the couple’s first child. Having trouble sleeping, she turned to friend Jill Belasco, who is now SeaWeed Naturals co-founder, who introduced her to nighttime cannabis gummies with melatonin.

“I was finally able to sleep and wake up feeling refreshed and not groggy,” Ashlan said.

“We now have our family, friends and colleagues using cannabis for aches, pains, inflammation, stress relief, help sleeping and more,” she adds. “It truly is a wonder plant. And combined with the healing powers of seaweed, algae and kelp it’s miraculous.”
