Lawmakers in Los Angeles approved new rules on Monday that will regulator and legitimize marijuana in the city as the drug prepares for full legalization in California in January of next year.
It was this past March that the regulations were first drafted and determine what requirements marijuana growers, as well as sellers and manufacturers will need to take care of to have a state license to operate.
The legislation was passed by a council committee and will now be taken to the full council.
As part of the regulations, current dispensaries will have to shut down until they wait for their new licenses under the new legislation.
In respond to the loss of potential revenue the dispensaries may lose, City Council President Herb Wesson has said he will consider a provisional license system.
