Although it is legal to buy marijuana in Las Vegas, it may not be legal in the states that visits of Vegas will be returning home to.

Las Vegas has kept this in mind as the city’s McCarran International Airport is allowing visitors to dispose their legally purchased marijuana in specially designated bins outside of the airport.

There are 13 bins so far and they are all bolted to the ground in high traffic areas. They are outside the airport as well as its car rental area according to The Las Vegas Sun.

Due to new ordinances on carrying marijuana onto Department of Aviation owned properties, the bins were installed last week. They are also referred to as amnesty boxes.

“The amnesty boxes are offered as a way to help people comply with this ordinance,” airport spokeswoman Christine Crews told The Associated Press.

According to Crews, its not easy to steal from them. She explained, “The drawer pulls out; you drop your stuff in and you close it. You can’t really get your hand in there. If you start tampering with them, you’d be detected pretty quickly.”

At least seven more amnesty boxes are expected to be installed at McCarran and nearby airports.
