The city of Los Angeles may soon make it difficult to challenge a marijuana dispensary near you.

The city’s council is considering legislation that would only allow those people who work, live, or have property that is within 500 feet of a marijuana dispensary business, to appeal the dispensary’s license.

Marijuana will go on sale recreationally in the Golden State starting in January.
It was last November that California voters voted to approve Proposition 64 that allows the state’s residents to legally buy recreational marijuana starting on January 1st.

According to analysis fro the University of California Agricultural Issues Center at UC Davis, recreational marijuana sales will make up about 60% of the California marijuana market and will account for around $5 million in annual sales.

Some are not too thrilled with what the Los Angeles City Council is considering.

The vice president of Westwood Neighborhood Council, Sandy Brown, said, “If a home is within 600 feet and (the residents) do not have a say in their neighborhood matters, the city is not being inclusive.”

“We don’t want too many marijuana dispensaries in the Village, just like we don’t want to see too many movie theaters,” she argued.
