According to information from pediatricians in Canada, there is a significant number of children in the country who have ingested edible marijuana.
Between the months of September and December of last year, there were 16 reported cases of harm involving children under 18 who had ingested the edibles.
The preliminary research was conducted by the Canadian Pediatric Society, which found that “a significant number of young children” required medical care after ingesting cannabis in the months surrounding legalization last October.
“The number of cases involving young children is striking,” said Christina Grant, a pediatrician in Hamilton and co-principal investigator of the study.
“These early results highlight the urgency of prioritizing the needs of children and youth in policy and education initiatives, especially as edibles become legalized later this year,” she added.
The two-year study will collect data until October 2020.
