While it’s unfortunate that drivers are driving with marijuana in their system, it is even more tragic that often a child is found in the car with them.

According to a survey, many drivers who test positive for the drug have a child in the vehicle.

Researchers reported their findings on Thursday in a report published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs.

Nearly one in seven Washington state drivers traveling with kids tested positive for THC, the researchers concluded.

The researchers also determined that 14.1 percent of drivers with children on board had used cannabis.

“One of the things I would like consumers to know is that cannabinoid products can be impairing,” said study co-author Angela Eichelberger. Eichelberger is a senior research scientist with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. “And different products and methods of ingestion might have different effects.”
