According to a new study, those who smoke cannabis are less likely to develop metabolic syndrome, which is a significant risk factor for obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

A study published in the American Journal of Medicine, has revealed that marijuana users are much less likely than non-users to develop metabolic syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome is a significant risk factor for obesity, type II diabetes, and heart disease.

Scientists at the University of Miami in Florida conducted the study and looked at the relationship between cannabis consumption and the individual components of metabolic syndrome.

This includes high blood pressure, increased abdominal fat, elevated blood sugar, and unhealthy cholesterol levels.

Almost 8,500 people from age 20 to 59 provided survey data for the study.

Participants were separated into three categories. One group had current marijuana users, another group had past users, and those who had never smoked the plant were in the last group.

According to the study, less than 13 percent of current cannabis-using adults in this study had metabolic syndrome.
