Ohioans who qualify for medical marijuana will have hundreds of doctors to choose from that can recommend the plant to them.
The number of licensed physicians who can help patients get medical marijuana has now grown to 590. Patients who have any of the 21 qualifying conditions will have to visit a physician that has received a green light from the state.
The doctor can “recommend” it, which means beginning a profile in the state’s Patient and Caregiver Registry. Patients will then have to pay a fee and complete the registry before receiving an e-card to obtain the drug.
Medical and osteopathic doctors who want to help patients get medical marijuana must first get a “certificate to recommend” from the State Medical Board of Ohio.
In the year since the state’s dispensaries started to sell medical marijuana, about 4,275 jobs have been created, according to a report recently from cannabis information, news and product website Leafly.
