According to supporters of J.B. Pritzker, who just was elected governor on Tuesday, his win could help marijuana legalization in the state of Illinois.

Pritzker was a proponent of the legalization of recreational marijuana in the state.

Chicago lawmaker Kelly Cassidy, who co-sponsored a cannabis bill, hopes that it will pass by next spring.

“I suspect it’s a done deal,” remarked Pat Brady, former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party. “People see it as a new source of revenue. The true battle will be over who gets their cut of it taxwise.”

“Now the devil is in the details, we are all rowing in the same direction now and that is great, that’s really what we need,” she said.

State Rep. Jim Durkin, House Republican Leader is against the move and has said, “To me that is not the way we should deal with problems, to rely upon weed to be the guiding light to fix all the problems we are experiencing in Springfield.”

“I believe it’s premature, we are moving too fast. I believe there are societal concerns we must put into perspective when we think about this,” he said.
