A state appeals court on Tuesday has ruled this week that Steve Lee, who use to be the former director of the Division of Consumer Affairs in New Jersey, had the authority to re-classify marijuana from the “schedule 1” category.
The court has said that New Jersey Governor’s Chris Christie’s administration must look at marijuana’s legal standing under state law because the health benefits of the plant are “abundantly and glaringly apparent now.”
The state Health Department has said that there are 15,490 registered medical marijuana patients in the state now.
The decision by the court does not change marijuana’s legal status.
