Denver Attorney Bob Hoban: Solving Legal Complexities in Hemp and THC

By Jean Lotus

Denver attorney Robert (Bob) Hoban’s decision to specialize in cannabis and hemp more than a dozen years ago has given him a prime position in the international commercial cannabis and hemp industries.

Hoban graduated from Univ. of Wyoming Law School & began to practice law in 2001, but he pivoted as the regulated cannabis industry came online in Colorado and other states.

As the hemp and cannabis markets matured, Hoban spent a dozen years pioneering a new legal field and creating the class of lawyers known as “cannabis attorneys.”

Delta 8: A 5-Part Series

By National Industrial Hemp Council of America (NIHC)

Throughout June, the National Industrial Hemp Council of America (NIHC) put together a series of five articles in their weekly newsletter highlighting the divergent opinions around hemp-derived delta-8 THC.

The NIHC initially wrote about what delta-8 is and why it’s controversial before looking at the road ahead. To contribute to the series of articles, NIHC brought in Hemp Industries Association former President Rick Trojan, who defended delta-8 THC by making the case that hemp & all hemp derivatives were made legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. U.S. Hemp Roundtable General Counsel Jonathan Miller contributed with an opinion that delta-8 THC should be regulated through the well-regulated dispensary system in states that have legal adult-use cannabis while pointing out the public warnings of the FDA & CDC. Kristi Wolff, a partner at the law firm Kelley Drye, and her colleague Cristina Ferretti opined about the Ninth Circuit’s decision on delta-8 and what it means to the regulatory challenges before the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the states.
