Ohio’s Senator Kenny Yuko, a democrat from Richmond Heights, has introduced a resolution to the state’s Senate, that asks the feds to drop cannabis from the list of controlled substances. Yoko’s formal request will have to pass both the House and Senate in Ohio.
Ohio already has a medical marijuana program since last September, but according to the resolution, any clinical studies on the benefits of medical marijuana are difficult. Additionally it is hard to get health insurance to cover medical marijuana and hard for banks to handle financial transactions.
The state has three state agencies that oversee regulations for growers, dispensaries, and patients and doctors: Department of Commerce, Board of Pharmacy and State Medical Board.
Ohio authorities are in the process of writing rules for processors and are also testing labs and dispensaries. They are also currently considering applications from companies that desire 24 cultivator licenses.
